Priyavrata Mafatlal is part legacy custodian, part disruptor. At under 40, the fifth-generation industrialist is leading the 120-year-old Arvind Mafatlal Group as Vice Chairman, rewriting its playbook for a new era. As Managing Director of Mafatlal Industries Ltd., he has reshaped one of India’s oldest and respected textile companies with fresh ideas, an asset-light, digital-first model, and a sustainability focus.
Today, Mafatlal is a Rs 3,000-crore enterprise, profitable for five consecutive years, India’s No.1 in uniforms, and a frontrunner in innovative textiles and home furnishings. He also serves as Director of NOCIL Ltd., India’s largest rubber chemicals company.
Priyavrata began his journey in 2008 as a young trainee at NOCIL and other group companies, learning the business ground up. In the past six years, he has steered the Group beyond textiles, into high-impact sectors such as IT, health & hygiene, EdTech, and renewable energy, while staying true to his family’s rich legacy of business ethics. Through Vrata Tech Solutions (VTS), the Group’s IT arm, he is building global digital partnerships, while at Mafatlal, he is powering India’s nation-building goals through key institutional orders in textiles and other products.
To bridge India’s education and employability gaps with skilling programmes for tomorrow, Priyavrata founded the hybrid learning platform, Get Set Learn, partnering with Harvard Business Publishing Education, Cambridge, and IIT Guwahati.
With a vision that extends beyond corporate success and economic stewardship, Priyavrata co-chairs one of the social impact arms of the Arvind Mafatlal Group, the Indivar Foundation, piloting initiatives in rural development and girl child empowerment.
A Harvard Business School alumnus, Priyavrata has been recognized with Hurun India’s “Multi-Generational Excellence in Family Business” award, Franklin Templeton India’s “Family Office Personality of the Year,” and named among “The Economic Times Inspiring CEOs in 2022.” He represents India’s new generation of leadership, who are rooted in heritage, aware of grassroots needs, restless to innovate, and unafraid to reimagine the future.
